Thames Restaurant

Thames RestaurantThe Thames Restaurant, seating up to 48 diners, is open every day for breakfast and from Monday through Thursday for dinner. Our Anglo-Swiss chef, Martyn Voden and the restaurant manager, John Brannan have been providing fine food and service here for more than a dozen years.

Our regular guests frequently attest to the quality of the cooking and the warmth of the hospitality. Menus are changed on a daily basis in order to provide variety and interest to those dining in-house over several evenings.

John and Martyn are also happy to discuss any special meal requirements and to propose private banqueting arrangements for up to 40 guests.

If you decide to relax in your room or suite, a full Room Service Menu is available Monday through Thursday.

Thames Restaurant Breakfast Menu

At the Walton Cottage Hotel we believe in providing a nourishing and delicious start to a busy day. We guarantee that no one will leave our breakfast table hungry. Guests are invited to choose from the following as they wish:


A selection of cereals

Fruit and fruit juices

A selection of yoghurts

Piping hot porridge with milk or cream

Free-range eggs - Fried, scrambled or poached to your liking
Rasher of succulent bacon
Traditional British butchers sausage
Grilled tomato
Fried bread
Baked beans

An Omelette of your choice

Oak-smoked kippers

Toast, whole wheat or white

Marmalade, jams and honey

Marmite, HP sauce and ketchup are available on request.

Coffee, hot chocolate or tea (herbal teas available on request)

Dinner at the Thames Restaurant

Dinner is served in the Thames Restaurant Monday through Thursday evenings from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The menu changes daily, and includes a vegetarian option. We are happy to make special diet dishes if we have prior notice. Our menus are complimented by a careful selection of wines. The following is a sample menu:


Courgette and Mint Soup

North Atlantic Prawns and Avocado Salad
with a Brandied Marie Rose Dressing

Spinach and Shiitake Mushroom Risotto
prepared with White Wine, Cream and Parmesan

Terrine of Chicken Livers and Green Peppercorns
served with a Red Onion Marmalade

Baked Goats' Cheese
on a Roquette and Watercress Salad with Raspberry Dressing


Grilled Fillets of Red Mullet
set on a bed of Mediterranean Vegetables drizzled with a Pesto Dressing

Cajun-Spiced Breast of Chicken
with a Tomato Salsa

Prime Sirloin Steak Topped with Stilton Cheese
and served on a Port Wine Cream

Herb-Crusted Best End of Roast Lamb
with a Rosemary Gravy

Escalope of Tender Pork Fillet
Sauteed with Onion, Celery, Apples and Cider Sauce

The above dishes are accompanied by a selection
of fresh vegetables and potatoes of your choice

The Cottage Bar

The Cottage BarOur congenial and cosy Cottage Bar is open seven evenings a week from 5pm. Perfect for lively and cheerful conversation, the bar also provides full service to the Reception Lounge which offers sports enthusiasts the added attraction of a large plasma television.

As well as a full selection of spirits, wine, and beer on tap, the Cottage Bar Menu, served from Monday through Thursday, offers a convenient and satisfying selection of light meals.

Poet's Corner

Poet's CornerDrinks and refreshments can also be enjoyed in the adjacent Poet's Corner, with its quieter ambience, timbered hall, stained glass panels and a stone fireplace.
